Overview
HTR Performance Engineering calibrates your vehicle remotely using HP Tuners VCM Suite: you pull the stock read and record data logs, and we build and revise the calibration until it is final.
A smooth session depends on three things being in place before we start: the right hardware and software, HP Tuners credits loaded on your interface, and a mechanically healthy vehicle. This guide walks through each, then the calibration workflow step by step.Â
Â
Required Hardware and Software
Â
You need five things in place before your first session: an HP Tuners interface, VCM Suite on a laptop, credits, an OBDII wideband, and a fast internet connection.
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Interface device | HP Tuners MPVI3 or MPVI4 (or RTD4 for TDN remote delivery); MPVI4 required for Global B vehicles |
| Software | Latest VCM Suite (VCM Editor and VCM Scanner) installed on a laptop |
| Credits | Universal credits for your vehicle’s ECM and TCM, purchased and synced via the HP Tuners website |
| Wideband O2 | OBDII wideband kit: AEM part # 30-0334 or Ballenger part # SNSR-00993 |
| Internet | High-speed connection, so files transfer quickly and without corruption |
Interface: MPVI4
The MPVI4 plugs into the OBDII port and connects your laptop to the vehicle for reading, flashing and data logging. The MPVI4 is required for all Global B calibration work; the MPVI3 cannot be used on Global B vehicles.
Wideband Lambda Sensor: Approved Kits
A wideband gives accurate air-fuel ratio data in your logs. Use one of these two kits so the data matches our configuration files.
AEM X-Series OBDII Wideband — part # 30-0334
Ballenger AFR500 — part # SNSR-00993
No laptop? Remote calibration with HP Tuners TDN
If you don’t have a laptop, HTR can deliver your calibration through HP Tuners’ Tune Delivery Network (TDN), using your Android phone or iPhone as the portal. You never install VCM Suite.
TDN is a browser-based and mobile platform that connects calibration shops with their customers. HTR manages your vehicle, receives your read file and sends calibration files through the TDN portal; you use the free TDN app to read, license and write to your vehicle.
HTR works in the TDN web portal (left); you use the TDN app on your phone (right), with Home, Account, Flash, DTC, Data Log and Tools screens.
What you need
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Phone | Android or iPhone with the free TDN app: Google Play · App Store |
| Interface | MPVI4 (required for Global B) or an RTD device supplied by HTR. iPhone users need an MPVI2+, MPVI3, MPVI4, RTD or RTD+; the original MPVI2 works with Android only |
| Credits | Still required: you license your vehicle in the app before writing the calibration |
How a TDN session works!
-
- Connect with HTR: TDN only works through an HP Tuners authorized shop. HTR sends you an invite code that links your app directly to our professional portal.2
- Read the stock file: plug your HP Tuners OBDII interface into the diagnostic port, turn on your phone’s Bluetooth, and use the TDN app to read your vehicle’s original stock calibration.
- Send it to HTR: submit the stock read through the app to our portal with one tap.
- Receive and flash the calibration: once we build your custom calibration, it is pushed back to your app. License your vehicle (credits needed), then write the file to your ECU from your phone.
- Data logging and diagnostics: after flashing, use the app to record data logs, monitor performance, and read or clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Send logs straight back to HTR through the app for REV files, repeating until the FINAL calibration.

Not every controller is supported on TDN with an MPVI device. Send us your year, make, model and engine and we will confirm TDN support before you buy anything.
HP Tuners credits: set up before your session
Credits must be purchased and synced to your interface before we can license and calibrate your vehicle — a session cannot start without them.
HP Tuners uses a credit-based licensing system. Credits act as currency to buy licenses for the modules in your vehicle, and licensing a module is what allows it to be calibrated. The number of credits varies by vehicle.
Â
-
- Many vehicles need 2 credits to license the ECM/PCM.
-
- Additional modules such as the TCM, FICM or CCM may need more.
-
- The complete list of supported vehicles and credit costs is on the HP Tuners supported vehicles page.
If you are unsure how many credits your vehicle needs, send us your year, make, model and engine and we will confirm before you buy.
Vehicle Mechanical Checklist
Verify every item below before you record your first data log. Mechanical faults show up as bad data and lead to a bad calibration.
Â
-
- No leaks: all vacuum leaks and exhaust leaks ahead of the O2 sensors are fixed, to prevent false lean readings.
-
- Ignition and fuel: healthy spark plugs and coils with no misfires, correct plug heat range for the application, and clean, fully working injectors.
-
- Correct fuel: tank filled with the exact grade and type you will run on the calibration (e.g. 91/93 pump gas, E85).
-
- Safety: tires, brakes and suspension inspected, since wide-open throttle (WOT) pulls will be performed.
-
- Stable power: engine fully warmed to operating temperature, and a battery charger connected to hold voltage steady during flashing.
Calibration Workflow
The process runs from a stock read to a final file, with 2–3 revision rounds based on your logs.
Â
-
- Stock read: plug the interface into the OBDII port and pull the stock ECU/ECM read with VCM Editor.
-
- Module upgrades and unlocks: on restricted late-model architectures, complete any required OEM controller services first (for example Global B E01/E68/E90 ECM upgrades or T87A/T93 TCM unlocks). Global B work requires an MPVI4.
-
- Submit vehicle details: complete the HTR vehicle modification form or fill in the calibration overview notes inside the software, then email your stock read to HTR.
-
- Flash the HTR Base file: load the startup file we send to fire the vehicle and make light test drives.
-
- Data logging: using the HP Tuners configuration file we provide (specific to your ECM and build), record idle, part-throttle and WOT logs in VCM Scanner and send them to us.
-
- Revisions: we return revised files based on your logs, typically 2–3 rounds. Flash, log and send back after each one.
-
- Final file: once the logs are right, we send the finished calibration for you to flash.
Calibration file labels
| Label | What it is |
|---|---|
| HTR Base | Startup file to fire the vehicle and make light test drives |
| REV1, REV2, … | Revisions built from your data logs, numbered in order |
| FINAL | The completed calibration |
